-Students become advocates for immigrants within the community. They organize and run an after school tutoring session for recent immigrants.

-Students solicit funds from local organizations to purchase story books in the target language for the school library. They facilitate evening reading groups for parents and children.

-Teacher and students invite recent immigrants from the target culture to their school. If it is not possible to solicit these people, students assume the roles of recent immigrants. They simulate a roundtable discussion similar to those that occur on television and radio talk shows (The News Hour, Meet the Press, etc.) for a debate on current immigration laws and possible changes that might improve the process.
